“Pictures to show viewers what she sees, physically and psychologically, and ask what they see.”

Wandsworth Artists Open House 12th and 13th October 10am - 6pm

Kate Pellegrini makes pictures to show viewers what she sees, physically and psychologically, and ask what they see. Her paintings try to distill a subject and how she felt at the time, editing out irrelevant material, as the way we perceive is highly selective.

Her painting style has developed using a variety of media including oil & acrylic paint, ink and watercolour, chalk pastel, charcoal and collage techniques. She has been incorporating obscure text into expressive gestural painting most recently, which explains the meaning of the piece. Kate’s most recent subject is a response to the humanitarian and environmental crisis of climate change, and mankind's relationship to our home planet. Kate has exhibited in galleries and art fairs for over thirty years.

The representational work draws on her architectural training. The images are generated by making drawings and taking photographs on location of views in the UK, Europe and her native Australia. The work is a layering of building and landscape motifs, and the factual information is used to develop ambiguous spatial relationships, in order to reflect the way she sees. The paintings rely heavily on drawing, and also incorporate her memory of being there.

Kate will be at Putney Arts Theatre on 5-6th and 12-13th October between 11am and 6pm, and can meet interested buyers at other times when the Theatre is open. Kate will undertake commissions of paintings and drawings, and she welcomes requests for colour themes, text, size and media. Commissions received by December 1st will be delivered in time for Christmas.
