What should I prepare?

Everyone involved in the show will need to participate in some element of singing and dancing. Even if you are allergic to movement and can’t sing for toffee, we will be doing several group numbers which we will tailor to your ability.

For the audition you will be asked to:

1) Learn a short piece of group choreography. We will teach this to you on the night, and will form part of the warm up to break the ice! It will be very simple, and we’ll be looking for you ability to move, perform and have fun rather than give us your best Swan Lake Impression

2) Read for the characters you are auditioning for. Pick your favourite Please prepare for 2 characters, find a friend or three  using the audition extracts and read the pieces to us! These will be released shortly. Please familiarise yourself with all extracts, as we may ask you to read for characters other than the ones you had prepared.

3) You will be asked to sing a verse and chorus of a song from a preapproved list. This will also be released shortly. Again, this is to get an idea of what your voice is like, not to audition for the X Factor.

We’re aiming to make auditions as relaxed, fun and stress-free as possible, so if you have any concerns please do just get in touch.

We’ll see you at auditions. If you get lost enroute to the theatre, just follow the second star to the right and straight on till morning! (We’d recommend using Google Maps as a first port of call though)

About the Play

Peter Pan-to - Magic, Mayhem and Merriment guaranteed!

We're looking for actors to fly off to Neverland this festive season in a thrilling pantomime adventure. Filled with music, magic, mischief, and plenty of audience participation!

Join all your favourite childhood characters, and meet a few new ones too, for a Christmas festive feast of fairy dust and family fun. Whether you’re gunning to show us your best Pirate impression or shout the loudest ‘He’s behind you!’, this is one pantomime you won’t want to miss!

CAST

Please note, all characters will require a level of singing and dance ability. You don’t have to be the next Sabrina Carpenter, but if you can hold a tune and give us some Jazz Hands, you’re qualified!  If you don’t want to sing solo or have any issues with this, please make it known to us at the auditions. 

We will be providing audition extracts and songs in the next few days, so please watch this space!

THE DARLINGS

• NARRATOR, doing their best to drive the story along, despite Mary’s best efforts to derail the show.
• MARY DARLING, the children’s mother and the pantomime dame. Saucy, bold and fiercely protective of her little Darlings. Traditionally played by a male. 
• WENDY DARLING, female presenting. Young. Solo singing required.  The eldest daughter of the Darling’s, responsible but longing for adventure. 
• MICHAEL DARLING, Young. Solo singing required.
• The youngest of the children, energetic and carefree, double act with….  
• JOHN DARLING, Young. Solo singing required. The middle child teases his older sister relentlessly.
• GEORGE DARLING, the children’s  grandfather. Stern and no nonsense.  
• LIZA, female presenting. The maid

THE PIRATE CREW- any age, any gender, 

• CAPTAIN HOOK, Peter Pan’s nemesis, the villain - get ready to get booed. 
• MR SMEE, Hook’s loyal first mate. Slimy and simpering.
• SKYLIGHTS, a scurvy dog
• MULLINS, a buccaneer 
• BILL JUKES, a salty member of the crew
• WIBBLES, a member of the pirate posse. A man of few words and a great part for a comedic actor. 

THE LOST BOYS

• PETER PAN, the hero of the story, or is he? Cocky, boastful and refuses to grow up! Solo singing required, traditionally played by a female, but open to any gender. 
• TINKERBELL, Peter Pan’s sidekick - sassy, jealous but with a heart of gold. Female Presenting. 
• RIGHTLY, one of the Lost Boys

Where ethnicities are not listed against the characters, we would openly encourage actors of all ethnicities to consider those roles.

COSTS

Please note that this is an amateur production. You do not need to be a member of Putney Theatre Company to audition, but actors and crew will need to become a member of Putney Theatre Company to take part in the show. That cost is currently £30 a year.

There is also a show fee of £30 which will need to be paid by all actors in the production, which goes towards the cost of putting on the show and insurance.

We encourage you to become a member of PTC anyway, even if not cast.

Our company is run by volunteers and we expect all actors cast in a production to volunteer for Front of House duties at least once a year. Our shows could not go up without our Front of House volunteers.
