Scandaltown

by Mike Bartlett

Directed by Stuart Watson

Tuesday 19th - Saturday 23rd March 2024

Matinee, Saturday 23rd, 3pm

Main Stage, 7.45pm

Moral and progressive young heroine Phoebe Virtue disguises herself as an IT consultant and journeys to London to rescue her brother Jack from the temptations of the depraved metropolis, where she suspects he is taking drugs and reading the Daily Telegraph.

Meanwhile, vampy, scheming Lady Susan Climber attempts to ascend the ladder of influence and land a breakfast TV spot by getting cancelled for being outrageous on social media. Their fates collide in a night of mayhem, mistaken identities, and mind-blowing sex at the Netflix masked ball.

Mike Bartlett’s post-pandemic love letter to the reopened theatres is a rollicking modern take on Restoration comedy that holds a satirical mirror up to the fads and fashions of our time, as well as a joyful celebration of London.

CASTING INFORMATION

Scandaltown requires an ensemble cast of six men and six women playing 15 roles (three actors doubling). Playing ages should be regarded as a rough indication only.

The original production had a multicultural cast, and it would be great if our company also reflects the diversity of London’s population. However, there is very little in the dialogue that indicates any character’s ethnicity, and the audition process will assume that any role could be played by an actor of any ethnicity.

The audition pieces can be downloaded from below the cast breakdown.

PLEASE NOTE

We are committed to improving diversity in our casting and, unless stated for artistic reasons, we aim to actively adopt an inclusive casting policy.

This is an amateur production. You do not need to be a member of PTC to audition, but actors and crew will need to become members for £30 a year by direct debit. A £25 show fee will also need to be paid by all actors in the production. We encourage you to become a member of PTC anyway, even if not cast.

Our company is run by volunteers and we expect all actors cast in a play to volunteer for Front of House duties at least once a year. Our shows could not go up without our Front of House volunteers.

Photography on this website is provided by numerous members over the years. In particular we would like to thank: Ben Copping, Martin Jessop, Rich Evans and Steve Lippett who have contributed so much to capturing our productions in such amazing quality.
