Rehearsal period

There will be a few initial rehearsals in December, then rehearsals will start fully from early January.

These will be 2-3 evening rehearsals on Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm, as well as a 3- or 4-hour rehearsal on a Sunday. Some rehearsals may be needed on Saturdays and on different days and times. Most actors will be called to every rehearsal apart from the part of Soccer Mom. In the final few weeks, actors should be prepared to rehearse on up to 4 days a week.

Please note: This is an amateur production. You do not need to be a member of Putney Theatre Company to audition, but actors and crew will need to become members to take part in the show for £20 a year, and a £25 show fee will also be due.

Audition details

It’s helpful to read the play in advance if you can. There is nothing to prepare, but please wear clothes and shoes you can move in easily. Please also make sure you arrive on time.

Everyone auditioning for the girls on the team will read a scene together. Those auditioning for Soccer Mom will read part of her Scene Six speech.

Recalls will require quite a considerable amount of movement. You do not need to be sporty or be able to play football to be in the play, but there is a significant amount of physical action in the production. The characters speak with American accents: there will be coaching for this during rehearsals.

Synopsis

A town in middle-America. Every weekend a team of girls meet to play football. We listen to their secrets and their squabbles, from the seemingly unremarkable to the incredibly profound. Growing up is tough, especially in a confusing, fast-moving world. Alone, it feels like it might be impossible to fathom, but as a pack, they’re fierce.

Disarmingly funny, The Wolves is a portrait of self-discovery and ambition, speaking to the 16-year-old in all of us.

First seen in New York, this finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama has been an international hit. This is it’s London amateur premiere.
